After Amazon released its first shareholder letter since Jeff Bezos took over as CEO in July 2021, Andy Jassy said the international online retail platform Amazon could sell non-fungible tokens in the future.
“I think it’s possible later on the platform,” Jassy said in an interview with CNBC. Jassy added that he doesn’t own Bitcoin or NFTs and doesn’t think Amazon will add crypto payment options in the future, but he does think crypto will become more important over time.
If Amazon launches NFTs on its platform, it will compete with other online retailers like eBay, which started selling NFTs in May 2021. While Amazon hasn’t shown any concrete plans to add digital assets to its e-commerce marketplace in the near future, Amazon appears determined to integrate Web3 technology into its business model.
The company still has openings for blockchain-oriented jobs, such as a senior product manager on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) blockchain team.
